The Royals’ Ryan Peckford scored the game winner with only two and a half minutes left in the contest when he broke free from the Red Deer defence to beat Rebels’ goaltender Riley Lamb glove side. Victoria’s Jared Dmytriw opened the scoring mid-way through the first period. Matthew Phillips, Dante Hannoun and Ethan Price registered the other tallies for the Royals.
Tyler Soy recorded a goal late in the second period for his 100th career WHL marker. Soy is now only one tally away from tying Brandon Magee’s team record of most goals scored as a Royal at 101. Ryan Howse holds the franchise mark for most goals scored with 140. Soy also collected his 100th career assist on Ethan Price’s insurance marker.
Red Deer’s Josh Mahura registered two goals in the third period. Grayson Pawlenchuk and Dawson Martin scored markers less than a minute apart in the first period.
Victoria netminder Griffen Outhouse was acrobatic in net as he stopped 40 out of 44 shots directed his way, while Rebels’ goaltender Lamb turned aside 31 out of 36 pucks he faced.
The Royals went 0/4=0% on the powerplay. Red Deer capitalized once with a 1/6=16.7% record.
