The NAIT Ooks women’s soccer team are in Montreal, Quebec for the 2016 CCAA National Championships Nov. 9-12.

The #2 NAIT Ooks defeated the #4 Algonquin Thunder 3-0 in the CCAA women’s soccer national championship Bronze medal semi-final game Friday in Montreal. The Ooks will now get a rematch with the Douglas College Royals in the CCAA Bronze medal game Saturday at 12pm MST. Douglas College defeated the Ooks 2-1 in the quarter-finals Wednesday.

Douglas striker Mikayla Hamilton opened the scoring in the 13th minute, giving her team the early lead.
In the 63rd minute of the game, Sonali Dholliwar increased the Royals lead to two, capitalizing on a corner kick from Andrea Perrota. CCAA Player of the Year Kassy Jajczay gave the Ooks some hope with a goal in the 76th minute, but it’s as close as NAIT would get.

Thursday, November 10

With both teams being upset in the quarter-finals it was anyone’s guess as to what would happen in this game. The Ooks showed they were into the game scoring 7 minutes into the contest when Marissa Webb converted on a beautiful run. Both teams exchanged chances in a spirited first half before CCAA Player of the year Kassy Jajczay made it 2-0 for NAIT in the 39th minute which is how the game went into the half. VIU came out flying in the 2nd half scoring 5 minutes in. The Mariners kept pressing but in the end the Ooks held on for the win and will play Algonquin tomorrow in the Bronze semi-final.

Friday, November 11

Coming into the contest the Ooks knew they needed to jump on the Thunder early and that is exactly what happened. With the wind at their back ,NAIT’s Kaily Mohn scored on a beautiful shot in the 13th minute. The Ooks carried the play for much of the first half and went into the break with a 1-0 lead. NAIT played a strong defensive 2nd half despite playing into the wind and when Algonquin went down to 10 players after receiving a red card in the 67th min the Ooks took to the attack. Marissa Webb scored in the 75th minute while Kassy Jajczay put the icing on the cake scoring the Ooks third goal on a PK in 88th minute. The Ooks will now play for a CCAA Bronze medal Saturday.
