The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Prince Albert Raiders 7-1 at Prospera Place in Kelowna on Saturday night in their lone WHL game of the weekend.
Special teams played a major role in the contest as Kelowna was 4-for-5 on the powerplay and they were perfect on the penalty kill going 4-for-4.
The Rockets opened the scoring eight minutes in as Calvin Thurkauf scored his eighth of the season on the powerplay. Thurkauf finished the night with a goal and two assists. Jake Kryski scored a powerplay marker for his first of two on the night before the end of the period and the Rockets carried a 2-0 lead into the second frame.
The Rockets continued to push in the second, collecting two more powerplay goals in the middle stanza. The goals
came from Tomas Soustal and Nick Merkley to give the Rockets a 4-0 lead after two periods.
Prince Albert managed to get one past Rockets net-minder Michael Herringer in the third period, but the Rockets scored three to propel them past the Raiders for the 7-1 win. Third period Rockets goals came from Kole Lind, Cal Foote (his first of the season), and Jake Kryski.
Dillon Dube made his return to the Rockets line-up and he made an immediate impact in his season debut by recording three assists.
Michael Herringer improved to 10-6-0-0 on the year stopping 23 of 24 shots.
The win improved the Rockets record to 11-9-0-0 on the season.
The Rockets are back in action with a pair of games against BC Division rivals next week. Kelowna will host Prince George on Tuesday and Vancouver on Friday night.
