The 2017 North American Indigenous Games is less than a year away and the Team BC 2017 NAIG selection process has already begun! The BC Aboriginal Provincial Championships and Sport Development Camps serve as a primary component of the talent identification and selection processes for athletes to represent Team BC at NAIG. With the games fast approaching, there is a lot of information that needs to be shared between Team BC and its athletes. The Soaring Raven will be a primary source for information and updates regarding upcoming Team BC Provincial Championships, Sport Development Camps and selection applications. The Aboriginal Sport, Recreation & Physical Activity Partners Council began its Team BC 2017 NAIG selection process in August, beginning with the 2016 BC Aboriginal Golf Championships, the 2016 BC Aboriginal Soccer Championships, and the 2016 BC Aboriginal Lacrosse Camp.
A total of 86 athletes participated in the U16 and U19 age categories. The U19 Male team selected 22 athlete to the Team BC Development Squad while the the U16 Males team selected 24 athletes. The U19 Females named all 14 athletes to the Team BC Development Squad. The U19 and U16 Male and Female teams will be hosting a spring camp to name the final roster from the development squads.
The U19 Female Lacrosse team will be hosting an additional tryout to fill the remaining seats on the roster. The BC Aboriginal Female Lacrosse Selection Camp will take place on December 11, 2016 (1:00-4:00 PM) at Westhill Park Lacrosse Box in Port Moody, BC.
