COLWOOD, B.C. – Jordan Passmore scored the game winner late in the third period as the Victoria Cougars beat the Westshore Wolves 5-3 on Wednesday night.

The win moves Victoria three points ahead of the idle Saanich Braves who have two games in hand on the Cougars.

With 5:54 remaining in regulation, Passmore slapped a one-timer off a Kenny Britton feed for his fourth goal of the season.

Kyle Wade, Grayden Hohl, Akila Sato-Gaudreau, and Jake Calverley also scored for Victoria (15-5-0-3) while Kenny Britton and Tyler Vanuden had two assists.

The Cougars trailed by a pair midway through the first period before rattling off four unanswered goals.

Jordan Spandli was busy in the Westshore net, stopping 26-of-30 shots, while Anthony Ciurro made 15 saves.

The Wolves opened the scoring at 1:32 of the first period on a goal from Jake Calnan.

Wade, who was playing in his first game after suffering a preseason injury, tied the game 15 seconds later.

Then at 11:41, Zach Benson wired a shot over the shoulder of Ciurro from the right faceoff dot to restore Westshore’s lead.

Joe Gage gave the hometown Wolves (6-11-2-1) a two goal cushion less than a minute later.

But just before the end of the period, Hohl scored from the edge of the crease.

Sato-Gaudreau, who was named VIJHL Player of the Week for the period ending November 14, tied the game with the only goal of the second period.

There would be no scoring until the game winner from Passmore.

And then with seven seconds remaining in regulation and Spandli on the bench for an extra attacker, Calverley scored into an open net.

The Cougars went 0-for-7 on the power play while Westshore finished 0-for-3.

Next game for Victoria is Thursday, November 17 versus the Oceanside Generals.  Game time at the Archie Browning Sports Centre, located at 1151 Esquimalt Road, is 7:00 p.m.
