Tale of the Weekend
VICTORIA – The UVic Vikes men’s rugby team will face the Westshore Valhallians on Saturday November 26 at 2:30 p.m. in their last game of the Island Premier season. While the team may have missed out on qualifying for the Barnard Cup Final, they will be hoping to finish strong with a final win this term.
The game was originally scheduled to be played on October 15 but stormy conditions forced the cancellation of Island Premier Division games that weekend.
A win in this game would allow the Vikes to finish their fall season with a record of 4-1-4.
Last Time Out
This past Friday, the Vikes were victorious over James Bay in a home game under the lights. The final score was 42-7 in a decisive Vikes victory. James Bay was undefeated this season up until that point. Guiseppe du Toit, Nott, Jonathan Lorimer, and Hammond were the scorers in the game.
Westshore meanwhile, fell 42-12 to the Castaway Wanderers in their most recent outing.
By the Numbers
2 – Number of times that the Vikes have beat the Westshore Vahallians this season
86 – Number of points the Vikes scored against Westshore through the course of the term
Doug Tate, Vikes head coach
“We’re looking at finishing off strong. Our main focus is to keep developing our defence, I was happy with how they performed on Friday but early in the season we were giving up way too many points and it showed in our record. I think the guys are really starting to gel as a team now which is good going into a busy January”
Oliver Nott, fourth-year flanker
“The team is looking forward to carrying on the momentum we built up during our last game. I think it gave us a lot of confidence as it showed how we can play when we’re on form. Hopefully we can duplicate that performance this upcoming Saturday.
