The Swift Current Broncos concluded a three-game road trip on Saturday night with a 4-3 victory against the Kootenay ICE on Saturday night.

After an early penalty by Kootenay’s Tanner Sidaway for cross checking, Lane Pederson one-timed the first goal of the game on a Broncos power play to give Swift Current a quick 1-0 lead. New Jersey Devils prospect Colby Sissons found Pederson with a long cross ice pass on the play.

The ICE responded as Vince Loschiavo made a nice move down the wing to cut back inside and beat Broncos goaltender Taz Burman to knot the game 1-1.

Kaden Elder put the Broncos back up 2-1 as he pounced on a rebound in front of the ICE goal and slapped it home 2:08 into the second period.

ICE rookie forward Jake Elmer netted his first career WHL goal minutes later to make it a 2-2 game.

Bodies were flying in what was a physical second period that saw two separate tilts occur and 28 minutes in penalties combined.

Kole Gable picked a perfect time to net his first goal as a Bronco since being acquired from the Edmonton Oil Kings earlier this month. Gable collected a loose puck near the ICE cage off the back boards from a Dom Schmiemann shot and tucked it home to restore Swift Current’s one-goal lead.

Kootenay would not back down as Matt Alfaro made a great individual effort, going end-to-end and scoring to tie the game 3-3 early in the final period.

However, Broncos forward Tyler Steenbergen scored his Club-leading 20th goal of the season 7:54 into the third period, banking it in from behind the net off an ICE defender. The goal by Steenbergen stood up as the game winner and the Broncos finished their three-game trip with a 4-3 win.

Shots on goal favoured Swift Current 33-24. The Broncos went 1/3 on the power play while the ICE scored on their lone power play chance.

Swift Current returns home to prepare for the Calgary Hitmen on Teddy Bear Toss night on Friday, December 2nd at the Credit Union i-Plex. Puck drop is set for 7:00pm CT.
