SASKATOON – The No. 7 ranked University of Manitoba Bisons scored with just two seconds left in double overtime to seal a 2-1 win over the No. 9 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies Friday night in Saskatoon’s Rutherford Rink.

After the first five minutes of overtime solved nothing, it looked like the two Top 10 teams were headed to a shootout. But Lauryn Keen was able to jam in a rebound on a scramble in front of the Huskies’ net at 4:58.

Both teams now sit tied for second place in the Canada West women’s hockey standings with 9-3-1 records and 26 points.

Kaitlin Willoughby opened the scoring on a breakaway at 8:56 in the first period. Sailing in down the left side of the ice, she slid the puck by Manitoba netminder Rachel Dyck stick side.

Manitoba tied the game with just minutes left in the third period. Venia Hovi’s shot from the point off of a faceoff in the Huskies zone tucked into the net under the crossbar at 15:48.

Dyck finished the game making 27 saves for the Bisons, while Huskie netminder Cassidy Hendricks stopped 21 at the other end of the ice for Saskatchewan.

The two teams will battle again Saturday night. Puck drop is 5 p.m. at Rutherford Rink.
