Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals’ Matthew Phillips recorded a hat-trick, but the club fell 4-3 to the Brandon Wheat Kings on Wednesday night.
The Royals’ Phillips opened the scoring for the home team and tallied two goals in the final frame to complete his third career hat-trick.
Phillips’ first marker came on the man-advantage when he received a cross-ice pass from Jack Walker and fired the puck over the glove of netminder Jordan Papirny.
The Wheat Kings’ Zach Russell scored the game winner late in the third period. Brandon’s other goals were registered by Reid Duke, Tanner Kaspick, and Ty Lewis.
The Royals started Dylan Myskiw in net, who made 29 saves on the 33 shots directed his way.
The Wheat Kings’ Papirny stopped 29 of the 32 pucks he faced.
Victoria held a 1/7=14.3% mark on the powerplay, while Brandon went 1/3=33.3% with the man-advantage.
The Royals will now embark on a five-game road trip that begins this weekend. Victoria will play the Prince George Cougars on Friday and Saturday with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m. for both contests.
