The Silverbacks (13-17-0-1) put together back-to-back wins this weekend, finishing with a 7-2 victory at home over the Trail Smoke Eaters (15-15-0-1) last night (Saturday) at the Shaw Centre in Salmon Arm.

The home team opened the scoring with the first five goals, and lead 5-0 after 20 minutes. Jared Turcotte began the game with his ninth of the season, a power-play goal at 2:48.

Hayden Hopkins increased the lead to 2-0 at 7:59, his third of the season in his first game after a four game suspension. Elijiah Barriga put the Silverbacks ahead 3-0 with his 14th at 9:35.

Mitch Skapski scored the Silverbacks fourth goal, his 11th at 10:52. And that chased Zach Dyment from the Smoke Eaters goal, the former Silverback allowed four goals on 10 shots in just over ten minutes of work in the 20-year-old’s return to Salmon Arm.

And Josh Blanchard potted the final goal of the first frame, his fifth at 12:06. The Silverbacks outshot the Smoke Eaters 19-10 in the first period. Trail scored first in the second period with a power-play goal, 5-1 Silverbacks at 4:56 as Marcus Mitchell was penalized for elbowing.

Carson Bolduc restored the five goal lead with his 12th of the season, 6-1 at 13:11 of period two. Salmon Arm outshot Trail 12-10 in the middle frame. Former Silverback Connor Brown-Maloski scored the Smoke Eaters second and final goal of the night, his sixth at 18:03. And Barriga finished the scoring with his second of the game and team leading 15th, at 18:57 with the man-advantage.

Salmon Arm lead 9-8 on the shot clock in the third and the Silverbacks outshot the Smoke Eaters 40-28 total. Nic Tallarico made 26 saves on Saturday for his second consecutive win in goal for the Silverbacks. The 18-year-old of Vancouver, BC was acquired last week from the Estevan Bruins in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. Brandon Kegler was released on Thursday.

The Silverbacks are 4-9-0-1 on home ice, while the Smoke Eaters fall to 6-9-0-1 on the road.

Trail still leads the season series 3-1. The Silverbacks will host the Smoke Eaters again on January 7th at 7pm and February 7th at 7pm at the Shaw Centre in Salmon Arm. The Silverbacks final regular season trip to Trail is set for January 6th at 730pm.

Grayson Constable, Akito Hirose and Julian Timba each remain due to injury.

The Silverbacks will be back at practice tomorrow (Monday) and back in game action on Tuesday of this week, December 6th and on the road at the West Kelowna Warriors (13-15-0-1) at 7pm.

Salmon Arm’s next home ice action will be this Friday, December 9th versus the Vernon Vipers (15-12-0-3) at 7pm and it is the annual Teddy Bear Toss!
