(Halifax, N.S.) – Dalhousie University women’s volleyball coach Rick Scott is pleased to announce the commitment of Catherine Callaghan to the Tigers 2017-18 lineup.

A 5’6 libero, Callaghan comes to the Tigers after successful high school, club and provincial team careers.

A member of Nova Scotia’s provincial team program on and off since 2012, she is currently part of the core training group for the 2017 Canada Games volleyball team.

Callaghan has proven herself at the national level, having spent part of the past summer with Canada’s junior national team. The starting libero, she and her teammates competed in the US High Performance Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in July.

She has been with the Tigers Volleyball Club for the last two seasons, leading them to two consecutive provincial championship titles (U17 & U18). She has received MVP and all-star awards at tournaments each year for her strong play and was named the Tigers U18 defensive MVP at the end of the 2016 season.

A grade 12 student at Citadel High School, Callaghan has helped lead the Phoenix to three consecutive Nova Scotia High School Athletic Federation (NSSAF) championship titles. She and her teammates won their most recent championship last weekend at this year’s championship in Truro, defeating CEC 2-0.

“I am beyond excited to join a well-known and supportive team,” says Callaghan. “I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to play for a coach who will work very hard to help me achieve my athletic goals.”

A native of Truro, N.S., currently residing in Halifax, Callaghan hopes to enroll in Dalhousie’s engineering or science program next fall.
