The Portland Winterhawks have announced the signing of goaltender Evan Fradette.

The 15-year-old Fradette was a fifth round selection of the Winterhawks in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft. The Hawks selected him after a bantam season with the St. Albert Flyers Bantam AAA program in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League in which Fradette recorded an impressive 1.81 goals against average and a .925 save percentage.

This season Fradette is playing for the St. Albert Flyers Minor Midget AAA team, where he currently leads the league in a multitude of goaltending categories. Fradette has played eight games thus far, and has only given up six goals. His 0.75 GAA is tops in the league, while his save percentage is an astounding 97.1%. He’s recorded four shutouts in his eight games played, helping propel the Flyers to a 17-0-0 start to their season.

“We were excited to see Evan build off the experiences of our training camp to excel at the start of the season and help his team get off to an unbeaten start,” said Portland Winterhawks Vice President, General Manager & Head Coach Mike Johnston. “After evaluating our young players at training camp, we feel we have a real strong group of 2001 born players. With recently signing Jaydon Dureau, and adding Evan Fradette, we’re continuing to build on that core for next season and beyond and anticipate more signings soon”
