Kamloops, BC—The growth of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack swim team will continue with something unique in 2017-18.
Head coach Brad Dalke and the WolfPack have secured the services of Matthew and Tyler Gauthier of Sylvan Lake, Alberta as their first two committed recruits. The twins attend Notre Dame High School and are breast stroke specialists. Matthew competes in the 50 and 100 breast and 50 freestyle events while Tyler’s events are the 50 and 100 meter fly and 50 breast stroke.
Both are 5’11” and belong to the Sylvan Lake Nauticals.
“We were only looking at Thompson Rivers University and Kamloops,” said Matthew, who was also being recruited by McMaster University as well.
“We look forward to help growing the program at TRU,” added Tyler who is the older brother by 15 minutes.
The Gauthiers first saw Kamloops last June when they participated at a meet hosted by the Kamloops Classics. “ The city is nice, it’s warmer in the winter than Sylvan Lake, it’s a nice pool and fast.” stated Tyler.
“I am really looking forward to getting on campus,” added Matthew. Both Gauthier’s will be enrolled in courses aimed at earning Bachelor of Business Administration degrees at Thompson Rivers.
The two Gauthiers have been swimming competitively for eight years.
“Both of these athletes are breaststroke specialists with very little training background,” says Dalke. “ I am excited to incorporate them into a Senior National Level program to see what they can do.”
