Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals are pleased to announce that 1997-born import forward Vladimir Bobylev will join the club for the remainder of the 2016-17 campaign. Bobylev is expected to join the team after this weekend.
In 72 games with the Royals last season, Bobylev registered 28 goals and 39 assists for 67 points and finished the season fifth in team scoring. He also recorded seven assists in five post-season contests. In 124 total career WHL games split between Victoria and the Vancouver Giants, Bobylev has registered 76 points (31g-45a).
The native of Lipetsk, Russia spent the first part of this season split between the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and the Supreme Hockey League (VHL). Bobylev played in 20 games for the KHL’s Spartak Moscow where he collected three points (1g-2a) to go along with 10 minutes in penalties. The 6-2, 203 lb forward also earned two points (1g-1a) in three contests with the Voskresensk Chemists of the VHL.
Bobylev was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the fifth round, 122nd overall, at the 2016 NHL Entry Draft and signed with Spartak Moscow this past summer.
Victoria drafted Bobylev 38th overall in the 2015 CHL Import Draft.
The Royals are currently in the midst of a five-game road trip that wraps up this weekend. The Royals take on the Portland Winterhawks tonight and then travel to Kennewick, WA to play the Tri-City Americans tomorrow. Puck drop versus the Winterhawks is set for 7:00 p.m., while the contest against the Americans is slated for 7:05 p.m.
Victoria returns to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Tuesday, December 13th and Wednesday, December 14th to face the Portland Winterhawks. Puck drop for both contests are scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
