Portland, OR- The Victoria Royals were defeated 5-4 in overtime by the Portland Winterhawks on Friday night at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Portland’s Ryan Hughes tallied the game winner in extra time. The Winterhawks’ other goals were scored by Brett Clayton, Colton Veloso, Cody Glass, and Henri Jokiharju.
The Royals’ opening marker was registered by Chaz Reddekopp when he received a centering pass from Dante Hannoun and fired the puck from in close over the blocker of Portland’s Cole Kehler. Victoria’s remaining goals were scored by Hannoun, Ryan Peckford, and Regan Nagy.
Victoria’s Matthew Phillips (2a) and Peckford (1g) each extended their point scoring streaks to five games. In those contests, Phillips has recorded 11 points (6g-5a) and Peckford has registered six (2g-4a). With a marker tonight, Reddekopp is now on a three-game point streak where he has tallied three points (1g-2a) during that span.
The Royals started goalie Griffen Outhouse in net who made 46 saves on the 51 pucks directed his way. Winterhawks’ netminder Kehler stopped 33 of the 37 shots he faced.
Victoria held a 1/5=20.0% mark on the powerplay, while Portland went 1/2=50.0% with the man-advantage.
The Royals wrap up their road trip tomorrow night against the Tri-City Americans. Puck drop for the contest is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the Toyota Center.
Victoria returns to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Tuesday, December 13th and Wednesday, December 14th to face the Portland Winterhawks. Puck drop for both contests are scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
