ancouver, B.C. – The Vancouver Giants never trailed on Friday night, but they lost 5-4 in a shootout to the Everett Silvertips at the Langley Events Centre. Thomas Foster, Radovan Bondra, Jack Flaman and Tyler Benson scored for Vancouver. Ryan Kubic made 49 saves in the losing cause.
Foster put the Giants in front in the first period, scoring his seventh of the season by knocking his own rebound past Everett goalie Carter Hart.
The teams combined for three goals in a 33 second span in the second period. Sean Richards tied the game for Everett before Bondra reestablished the Vancouver lead, tallying his team-leading 18th of the season on a hard drive to the net. Eetu Tuulola made it 2-2 just eight seconds after Bondra’s goal. Flaman put the G-Men in front again, hammering a hard one-timer past Hart from the right circle after a nice setup by Benson.
Noah Juulsen scored less than three minutes into the third period to tie it again, but Benson tipped a Dylan Plouffe point shot into the Everett net just before the midway mark of the stanza to make it 4-3. Dominic Zwerger evened the score again, less than a minute later, and the game was tied 4-4 through 60 minutes.
Neither team was able to score in overtime, and Zwerger was the lone player to find the net in the shootout.
Everett outshot the Giants 53-21.
Vancouver returns to action tomorrow night when the Spokane Chiefs visit the LEC. Puck drop is set for 7:00pm.
