Vancouver, B.C. – The Spokane Chiefs defeated the Vancouver Giants 5-2 on Saturday night at the Langley Events Centre. Johnny Wesley and Jack Flaman had the Vancouver goals.
Taylor Ross opened the scoring for Spokane at 15:24 of the first period, hammering a hard slap shot past Giants goalie Ryan Kubic from the left circle.
Tyson Helgesen scored off the rush early in the second period to extend the Chiefs’ lead, but the Giants scored a pair of power play goals in the middle frame to tie the game. Wesley found the back of the net with a backhander from the slot, and Plouffe scored on Spokane goaltender Jayden Sittler on a point shot. Hudson Elynuik scored the eventual game winning goal on a pretty deke with just over a minute left in the stanza.
Eli Zummack and Kailer Yamamoto added goals in the third period for Spokane. Vancouver failed to score on a five-minute power play in the final frame.
The Giants went 2-for-7 on the man advantage and out shot Spokane 33-26.
