Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals were toppled 4-3 by the Portland Winterhawks on Wednesday night at the Save-On-Foods Centre.
Portland’s Ilijah Colina scored the game winner mid-way through the third period to break a 3-3 tie. The Winterhawks’ other goals were scored by Conor MacEachern, Skyler McKenzie and Cody Glass.
Victoria’s line of Ryan Peckford, Matthew Phillips and Dante Hannoun all tallied goals on the man-advantage.
The Royals pushed for a late equalizer in the third period but were unable to solve Portland netminder Michael Bullion, who turned away all 15 shots fired his way in the frame.
Royals’ goaltender Griffen Outhouse started in net and made 23 saves on the 27 pucks directed his way.
Winterhawks’ goalie Bullion stopped 32 of the 35 shots he faced throughout the contest.
Victoria held a 3/8=37.5% mark on the powerplay, while Portland went 1/6=16.7% with the man-advantage.
The Royals will battle the Vancouver Giants on Saturday in their annual Teddy Bear Toss contest at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre at 7:05 p.m. Saturday’s contest will mark last time before the Christmas Holidays that fans can see the Royals in action.
Victoria returns home on Tuesday, December 27th and Wednesday, December 28th for a pair of contests against the Prince George Cougars. Puck drop for both contests is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
