Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals were knocked off 5-4 by the Vancouver Giants in extra time on Saturday night at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
Vancouver’s Ty Ronning tallied the overtime winner after Thomas Foster tied the game in the late stages of the contest.
The Giants’ Jack Flaman, Tyler Benson and Jeff Rayman scored the visitors’ other goals.
Victoria rookie Eric Florchuk sent the 6,129 boisterous fans in attendance to their feet when he scored late in the opening frame for the Teddy Bear goal.
Victoria’s Matthew Phillips, Chaz Reddekopp, and Jack Walker recorded the remaining markers.
Royals’ netminder Griffen Outhouse got the nod in net and turned away 10 of the 13 shots fired at him. Outhouse returned to the game for overtime as he stopped three of the four pucks he faced.
Dylan Myskiw came in relief to start the second periodand turned aside 24 of the 25 pucks directed at him.
Giants’ goaltender Ryan Kubic stopped 38 of the 42 shots fired his way.
Victoria went 1/5=20.0% on the man-advantage, while Vancouver held a mark of 2/5=40.0% on the night.
The Royals return from the holiday break on Tuesday, December 27th and Wednesday, December 28th for a pair of contests against the Prince George Cougars. Puck drop for both contests is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
