Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals downed the Canadian Hockey League’s sixth ranked club, the Prince George Cougars, 5-1 on Tuesday night as Tyler Soy recorded three goals and an assist.
Soy tallied two goals in the middle frame that included a highlight reel marker when he deked around Cougars’ defenseman Brendan Guhle, outwaited netminder Ty Edmonds, and slid the puck five-hole. The Royals’ forward completed his hat-trick just 28 seconds into the third period when he redirected a point-shot from Chaz Reddekopp. Soy wrapped up his four-point outing when he assisted on the game’s final goal, which was scored by Reddekopp. Matthew Phillips tallied Victoria’s opening marker.
Prince George’s lone goal was registered by Brad Morrison.
Victoria netminder Griffen Outhouse stopped 42 of the 43 he faced through the contest. The Cougars countered with Edmonds who made 19 saves on the 24 pucks directed his way.
In the win, two Royals extended their point scoring streaks. Phillips’ streak now sits at 10 games where the forward has recorded 19 points (9g-10a). With a goal and an assist, Chaz Reddekopp has tallied a point in eight straight (3g-8a) contests.
Neither team was able to capitalize on the man-advantage as the Royals went 0/1=0.0% and the Cougars held a 0/4=0.0% mark.
Victoria is back in action tomorrow night when they take on Prince George at 7:05 p.m. T
