(Edmonton, AB) – Edmonton Oil Kings General Manager Randy Hansch announced today the team has acquired forwards Graham Millar and Brett Kemp in addition to a first-round pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft from the Everett Silvertips in exchange for defenceman Aaron Irving and a seventh-round pick in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.

“We would like to thank Aaron for his time here as an Oil King. It started day one when we drafted him and since that day he has been a big part of our team and represented us well on and off the ice,” said General Manager Randy Hansch.

“We would also like to thank Aaron’s parents, Don and Lucy Irving, for being part of our billet family and organization.”

Millar, who hails from Penticton, BC, is a 20-year-old winger who has accumulated 16 points (9G, 7A) in 25 games this season with the Silvertips. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Millar has appeared in 226 career WHL games with Everett and Saskatoon where he has collected 83 points (44G, 39A).

Kemp, a 16-year-old rookie, has 7 points (3G, 4A) in 17 games this season. The Yorkton, SK native was drafted by the Silvertips in the second round (41st overall) in 2015. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound centre also appeared in six games representing Team Canada at the U17 World Hockey Championship where they won the silver medal.

“Brett Kemp is a very promising 16-year-old and we’re excited to see his potential unfold in Edmonton. I have no doubt he will fit in well with our group and will be a part of our future moving forward. In also adding Graham, it was important to get some experience coming back and this allows him a fresh opportunity.”

Irving was leading the team in scoring with 43 points (14G, 29A) and is currently tied for second in points from a defenceman in the WHL.

The Oil Kings captain appeared in 244 games with the club collecting 126 points (38G, 88A) and 295 penalty minutes. He leaves as the team’s all-time goal scoring leader for a defenceman and third in points from a defenceman.

Both Millar and Kemp will join the Oil Kings for their game in Lethbridge on Friday.
