LANGLEY, British Columbia – Trinity Western’s men’s and women’s volleyball teams are back on home court this weekend as they host Saskatchewan Friday and Saturday at the Langley Events Centre, while the basketball teams are on the road to play Winnipeg and the track and field teams will host a pole vault competition Saturday at the David E. Enarson Gym.

STORYLINE

This weekend’s series with No. 10 Saskatchewan marks the start of a second-half schedule that will see the Spartans play four teams currently in the U Sports Top 10, including both Manitoba (No. 3) and Alberta (No. 4). Spartans fans will get their first look at last year’s national championship MVP Blake Scheerhoorn, as the fourth-year outside will play his first home game of the year after being sidelined due to injury for nearly the entire first semester.

The Spartans entered the break riding a six-match winning streak and only lost two sets over that run. As for the Huskies, after winning five of six matches in the month of November, they have lost four of their last five outings, including dropping two of three at the post-Christmas University of Alberta Invitational.

STORYLINE

The Spartans capped the first semester with a pair of wins over Lethbridge. In the Spartans lone exhibition game over the holidays, TWU cruised to a 23-point win over Thompson Rivers. TWU travels to Winnipeg this weekend for a series with the undefeated Wesmen.

STORYLINE

TWU will look to bump a bit of a slump this weekend, as the Spartans are in search of their first victory since a win over Fraser Valley on Nov. 11th. Over the break, TWU played three exhibition games in Alaska, taking on NCAA Div. II Alaska Anchorage twice and Alaska Fairbanks once.

Saturday, Jan. 7 | Spartan Pole Vault Classic (David E. Enarson Gym) – 2 p.m. (PT)

 

STORYLINE

The Spartans track and field teams officially launch their 2017 seasons this weekend with the inaugural Spartans Pole Vault Classic at the on-campus David E. Enarson Gym Saturday. The competition will feature largely TWU vaulters along with a few local vaulters.
