In a key San Diego dual match between the top 2 teams in the county, 25 ranked wrestlers in the state and in the country did battle on the Titans mat where Poway has always been a wrestling tradition since Wayne Branstetter took over the program in 1978-79 recorded 3 falls, 4 decisions, 1 major, along with 2 forfeits as they defeated their Poway School District Rancho Bernardo Broncos by a 45-15 score.

The first 2 matches started at 103 as the Titans took a 12-0 lead as sr Jacob Allen currently second ranked in the state of California recorded a 24 second fall over Gavin Concepcion. After a forfeit win to 9th ranked so Carson Sauriol of Poway,

The Broncos scored their first win at 120 pounds where fr Jaden Le ranked 16th scored a 5-0 decision over Cameron Santiago to make the score 12-3 in favor of Poway.

The Titans went ahead 20-3 as jr Chase Zollman ranked 2nd in the state recorded a 4:04 fall over Pat Kenedy at 127, Scott Kiyono sr and ranked 5th in the state defeated top seed fr Jaden Abas who also ranked 19th in the country and son of former Fresno State NCAA Champion Steve Abas by a 5-0 score. Poway was deducted 1 team point and led 20-3

At 138 pounds in a see saw battle Rancho Bernardo’s Tyler Badgett with the match tied at 4-4 scored a key nearfall for 2 and won by a 6-4 score which made the team score Poway 20-6.

In the next 6 bouts starting at 145 pound weight class Dominic Matta ranked 15th in the state scored 2 takedowns and a nearfall defeated Chas Fraschina 7-0, In a key match at 152, Quinton Hovis top ranked in the state and the country, scored the only major decision of the contest with a 13-3 score over Erik Salcido 5th ranked in the state. At 160, Hampton Boyd ranked 3rd in the state scored a 7-0 win over Colin Murphy. At 170 pounds sr Celso Silva ranked recorded a 10th in the state recorded a 46 second fall over Rancho Bernardo’s Colin Murphy . At 182 Nate Tausch recorded a 1:16 win over Tru Stewart to go up 39-6.

The Broncos claimed the next two matches at 195 as University of North Carolina bound Chase Blair currently ranked 2nd in the state as he recorded the only pin of the match with a 1:02 second fall over the Titans Max Ward and Ryan Olivas 4-2 win over Jason Espinoza to make the team score 39-15.

At 275, Nick Klekas’s forfeit win made the final score 45-15 in favor of the Titans of Poway.

Head Coach Wayne Branstatter of Poway on todays meet: “The tossup match today was at 132 pounds between Jaden Abas who is ranked number one in the state vs. Scott Kiyono ranked 5th which was a key match for us he (Abas) is good another win for us was freshman at 145 Dominic Matta ranked 15th in the state he won big for us and Chasen Blair is very outstanding as I decided to threw a sophomore out there to wrestle Blair as he dominated the match
