Prince George, BC- The Victoria Royals fell 4-2 to the Prince George Cougars on Saturday evening for the club’s first regulation loss in seven games.
The Cougars’ Colby McAuley scored the game-winner in the opening frame. Prince George’s other goals were tallied by Jansen Harkins, Tate Olson and Nikita Popugaev.
The Royals’ opened the scoring in the first period when the Cougars’ Harkins passed the puck into his own net on a delayed penalty for the visitors. The goal was credited to Victoria forward Carter Folk, as he was the last Royal to touch the puck. Victoria’s other marker was tallied by Tyler Soy in the final frame.
Jack Walker, who recorded an assist on Soy’s goal, extended his point streak to five matches (3g-3a).
Victoria goaltender Griffen Outhouse turned aside 38 out of 42 shots he faced. Prince George netminder Ty Edmonds stopped 21 out of the 22 pucks directed his way.
The Royals went 1/4=25.0% on the man-advantage, while the Cougars held a mark of 1/5=20.0%.
Victoria returns home next week to play a trio of games. The club will battle the Kelowna Rockets on Wednesday, January 11th, and Friday, January 13th on Eco Night, and will face the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday, January 14th. Immediately following Saturday’s contest, fans will have a chance to skate with the players, courtesy of BCAA. Puck drop for all three games is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
