Langley, BC- The Victoria Royals took down the Vancouver Giants 3-0 as Griffen Outhouse recorded his second consecutive shutout on Tuesday night at the Langley Events Centre.
Outhouse, fresh off a 3-0 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday night, continued his solid play as he turned aside all 25 of the shots he faced to earn his eighth career WHL shutout and fourth of this season. The Likely, B.C. native has now tied alumnus Coleman Vollrath for the Royals’ shutout record at eight. Outhouse is also now two shutouts away from tying the all-time franchise record that is held by former Chilliwack Bruin netminder Lucas Gore at 10.
Victoria defenceman Ryan Gagnon scored the game-winner halfway through the first period when he deflected a point-shot from Mitchell Prowse. The Royals’ Tyler Soy registered the insurance goal early in the second stanza, while Matthew Phillips rounded out the scoring with a powerplay marker in the third frame.
Vancouver’s Ryan Kubic stopped 39 out of the 42 pucks fired his way.
The Royals went 1/3=33.3% on the man-advantage, while the Giants held a mark of 0/2=00.0% on the powerplay.
Victoria will continue their road trip when they visit the Edmonton Oil Kings on Thursday night before they face the Calgary Hitmen on Friday and Red Deer Rebels on Saturday. Puck drop for all three contests are slated for 6:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time .
The Royals return to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for back-to-back games against the Giants on Saturday, January 28th and Sunday, January 29th. Saturday’s contest is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. while puck drop for Sunday is slated for 5:05 p.m.
