Victoria Cougars Slip By Kerry Park


MILL BAY, B.C. – Jordan Passmore scored twice and Liam McCloskey stopped 46 shots as the Victoria Cougars downed the Kerry Park Islanders 5-3 on Tuesday night.

With the win, Victoria increased its lead to five points over the second-place Saanich Braves for top spot in the South Island Division.

Saanich has one game in hand, however.

Also scoring for the Cougars were Branden Tangney, Owen Dalman, and Nick Gomerich.

Victoria led 3-2 after one period and 5-2 after two.

Jarret Malloch, Jacob Malloch, and Jordan Martin replied for Kerry Park who has not beaten the Cougars since March 8, 2011.

Shots on goal favoured the Islanders 49-44.

Goaltender Matt Henwood made his first start for Kerry Park since coming over from the Campbell River Storm in a three player, three-team deal less than two weeks ago.

Victoria finished 1-for-6 with the man advantage while the Islanders went 0-for-5.

Dom Kolbeins and Gomerich had two points apiece for the Cougars who swept the eight-game season series with Kerry Park.

Next game for Victoria is Thursday, January 19 versus the Nanaimo Buccaneers.  Game time at the Nanaimo Ice Centre, located at 750 Third Avenue, is 7:15 p.m.
