Edmonton, AB- The Victoria Royals trumped the Edmonton Oil Kings 6-3 on Thursday night as Matthew Phillips (3g) and Tyler Soy (4a) paced the club offensively to extend the team’s winning streak to three games.
The Royals’ Phillips tallied the club’s first marker in the opening period, registered the game-winner in the middle stanza, and rounded out the scoring in the final frame to complete his fourth career WHL hat-trick. Of his four career hat-tricks, three have come against the Oil Kings, with one occuring earlier this season on October 14th in Edmonton. Victoria’s Soy assisted on all three of Phillips’ markers, along with Chaz Reddekopp’s shorthanded goal in the middle frame. The Royals’ other marker was recorded by Jack Walker in the first stanza.
The Oil Kings’ goals were scored by Will Warm, Trey Fix-Wolansky and Artyom Baltruk.
Victoria netminder Griffen Outhouse turned aside 18 of the 21 shots he faced. Edmonton goalie Patrick Dea stopped 36 of the 42 pucks fired his way.
The Royals went 2/8=25.0% on the powerplay, whereas the Oil Kings posted a mark of 1/4=25.0% on the man-advantage.
Victoria will continue their road trip when they visit the Calgary Hitmen tomorrow night and the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday. Puck drop for both contests are slated for 6:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.
The Royals return to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for back-to-back games against the Giants on Saturday, January 28th and Sunday, January 29th. Saturday’s contest is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. while puck drop for Sunday is slated for 5:05 p.m.
