Red Deer, AB- The Victoria Royals were downed 6-2 by the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday night at the ENMAX Centrium.
The Rebels’ offence was propelled by Brandon Hagel (2g-4a) and Michael Spacek (5a) who recorded six and five points respectively. Lane Zablocki registered a hat-trick that included the game winner. Adam Musil tallied Red Deer’s other goal.
Victoria’s Scott Walford wristed home his second goal of the season early in the first period, and Tyler Soy scored in the final frame to extend his franchise-lead in short-handed markers at 11.
Royals’ goaltender Griffen Outhouse, in his 21st consecutive appearance, turned away 38 of the 44 shots directed his way. With the start, Outhouse tied former Chilliwack Bruin Lucas Gore (2010-11) for the franchise record with the most consecutive starts.
Rebels’ netminder Lasse Petersen stopped 21 of the 23 shots he faced.
Victoria went 0/3=0.0% on the man-advantage. Red Deer held a mark of 2/6=33.3% on the powerplay.
The Royals will wrap up their five-game road trip in Vancouver on January 27th with a battle against the Giants. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Victoria returns to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre for back-to-back games against the Giants on Saturday, January 28th and Sunday, January 29th. Saturday’s contest is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. while puck drop for Sunday is slated for 5:05 p.m.
