Calgary, AB – The Western Hockey League announced today that Victoria Royals forward Tyler Soy has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 22, 2017.

Soy registered nine points (2G-7A) in four games to help the Royals go 3-1-0-0 on the road.

On Tuesday, January 17, Soy recorded one goal in a 3-0 win at Vancouver. On Thursday, January 19, Soy registered four primary assists in a 6-3 win at Edmonton and was named second star for his efforts. The following night – Friday, January 20 – he continued in his role as catalyst, providing three primary assists in a 7-2 win at Calgary, earning third star recognition. Wrapping up the weekend, Soy tallied one goal on Saturday, January 21, in a 6-2 loss at Red Deer.

A 19-year-old product of Cloverdale, BC, Soy sits third on the Royals in scoring with 43 points (20G-23A) in 34 games.

The 6-foot, 171-pound centre was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the seventh round (205th) of the 2016 NHL Draft. Originally a first round pick (eighth) of the Victoria Royals at the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft, Soy has collected 223 points (110G-113A) in 247 career WHL regular season games.
