Vancouver, B.C. – The Vancouver Giants lost a tight contest on Monday night, falling 2-1 to the Prince George Cougars in a shootout at the Langley Events Centre. Dawson Holt scored Vancouver’s lone goal while Ryan Kubic made 33 saves in the Giants’ crease.
The Cougars didn’t open the scoring until 5:45 of the second period when Jared Bethune fired the rebound of a Brendan Guhle wraparound attempt past Kubic. Holt equalized for the Giants at 15:49 of the third period when he beat Cougars goaltender Nick McBride with a hard wrist shot on a shorthanded 2-on-1.
The Prince George club scored on all three attempts in the shootout while James Malm and Brayden Watts beat McBride at the other end of the ice.
Prince George out shot Vancouver 34-31. The Giants went 0-for-5 on the power play.
The Giants will be back in action on Friday night at the Langley Events Centre when they host the Victoria Royals. Puck drop is set for 7:30pm.
