Cougars Easily Handle Westshore


COLWOOD, B.C. – The Victoria Cougars concluded their four-game VIJHL road trip with a 5-2 win over the Westshore Wolves on Wednesday night.

Scoring for Victoria were Akila Sato-Gaudreau, Owen Dalman, Kyle Wade, Nick Gomerich, and Grayden Hohl.

The Cougars led 2-0 after one period and 3-1 after two.

Liam McCloskey got his second straight start in net for Victoria stopping 30 shots.

Replying for Westshore were Joe Gage and Zach Benson.

Shawn Parkinson, winner of his last two games, finished with 22 saves for the Wolves.

Victoria went 3-0-0-1 on its longest road trip of the season.

Branden Tangney, who was dealt to the Cougars in late November, chipped in with a pair of assists against his former team.

Victoria’s win, coupled with the Saanich Braves 3-2 loss to the Oceanside Generals, extends the Cougars lead to eight points on Saanich for top spot in the South Island Division.

Next game for Victoria is Thursday, February 2 versus the Saanich Braves.  Game time at the Archie Browning Sports Centre, located at 1151 Esquimalt Road, is 7:00 p.m.
