WHL’s Top Prospects Perform in Sport Testing Combine

Quebec City, QC – Forty of the CHL’s top prospects eligible for the 2017 NHL Draft, including 15 from the WHL, were put to the test on Sunday at Centre Videotron one day before Team Cherry and Team Orr face-off at the 2017 Sherwin-Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.

Players seized the opportunity to showcase their individual strengths with Sport Testing once again putting the next wave of NHL Draft talent through a series of tests to gauge fitness and skill levels for NHL management and scouts.

Michael Rasmussen of the Tri-City Americans, ranked sixth by NHL Central Scouting in their Midterm Rankings, finished fifth in the skating drills to lead the WHL in the on-ice portion of the tests, which included forward and backward sprints, reaction, weave agility, and transition agility each performed with and without the puck.

Other WHL players showed strong in the on-ice portion of tests, including Stelio Mattheos (ranked 23rd by NHL CS) of the Brandon Wheat Kings, who finished first in reaction and second in the 30-metre forward skate.

Kailer Yamamoto (ranked 17th by NHL CS) of the Spokane Chiefs, finished first in weave agility with the puck, as well as second in weave agility without the puck.

Juuso Valimaki (ranked ninth by NHL CS) of the Tri-City Americans, finished first in reaction with the puck.
