The Portland Winterhawks have announced the signing of defenseman Kade Nolan.
Nolan was the Winterhawks’ fourth round selection in the 2016 WHL Bantam draft. Nolan was selected off the back of a bantam season in which he picked up 26 points in 38 games with the Notre Dame Hounds Bantam AAA team. Nolan was a part of that team with fellow Winterhawks signed prospects Jaydon Dureau and Reece Newkirk.
“Kade has shown the intelligence and skillset required to be a Portland Winterhawks defenseman” said Portland Winterhawks Vice President, General Manager and Head Coach Mike Johnston. “We feel he adds the right mix to an exciting group of 2001 born players we’ve signed this season.”
This season Nolan is playing for the Saskatoon Blazers of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League. He’s accumulated six points in 33 games from the blue-line. The fifteen-year-old defenseman joins fellow signed Winterhawks prospects at that age in forwards Connor Bowie, Jaydon Dureau, and Reece Newkirk; as well as goaltender Evan Fradette. Nolan becomes the first defenseman signed by the Winterhawks to join that core of the future.
