YEE RUNS FASTEST 800M TIME IN TWU SPARTANS HISTORY

326

SEATTLE – Trinity Western’s Regan Yee (South Hazelton, B.C.) ran the fastest 800m time in Spartans history, crossing the line in 2:07.97 Sunday in the University of Washington Open at Dempsey Indoor.

Yee’s time came up just short of the U SPORTS automatic equivalent event standard for the 1000m of 2:07.70. The fourth-year Spartan, who hadn’t run an 800m race since last season, bettered her previous indoor best of 2:12.87.

The Spartans previous 800m record – a distance that is not run at the U SPORTS national championships – was held by Fiona Benson (Dawson Creek, B.C.), who clocked a time of 2:10.57 Jan. 12, 2013 at the University of Washington Indoor Preview. Following her university career, Benson went on to qualify for the 800m semifinals at the 2015 IAAF World Championships.

The Spartans will now prepare for the Canada West Championships, which are Feb. 24-25 in Regina.

Prior to that, the Spartans pole vaulters will host one final showcase event Feb. 18 at 3:30 p.m. at the David E. Enarson Gym on the TWU campus.
