Victoria edged by Lethbridge 5-4 despite late comeback

Lethbridge, AB- The Victoria Royals fell by a score of 5-4 in a shootout to the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday night at the ENMAX Centre.


Lethbridge’s Tyler Wong scored a goal in the opening period and the shootout winner in the third round to secure the win. The Hurricanes’ other markers were recorded by Alec Baer, Egor Babenko and Zak Zborosky in the second stanza.


Victoria’s Regan Nagy tallied his second goal of the night with 1:31 remaining in the third period to send the game to extra time. Victoria’s Blake Bargar and Matthew Phillips collected the club’s remaining tallies in the opening frame.


Royals’ netminder Griffen Outhouse made 36 saves on the 40 shots he faced. Lethbridge goaltender Stuart Skinner stopped 35 of the 39 pucks fired his way.


Neither team could convert on the powerplay. The Royals posted a mark of 0/4=0.0%, whereas the Hurricanes went 0/1=0.0%.


Victoria will battle the Kootenay ICE tomorrow night, and the Vancouver Giants on Friday, February 24th to close out the club’s four-game road trip. Puck drop for tomorrow’s contest is slated for 6:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. Next Friday’s contest meanwhile is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.


The Royals return home on Saturday, February 25th for their sixth annual Pink in the Rink Night against the Vancouver Giants with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m. This event is one of the most popular games of the season and fans are encouraged to secure their seats in advance.
