Female Volleyball Athlete of the Week
Megan Rosenlund – VIU Mariners
Despite the emotional nature of her final PACWEST regular season matches Rosenlund played true to herself and dominated both offensively and defensively helping the Mariners sweep the Chargers. In a hard fought five set battle on Friday night she led the team with 17 kills while adding 14 digs, a block and passing a 2.3 in serve receive. Then at home on Saturday she accumulated 13 kills in only three sets. On the defensive end the fifth year senior added 12 digs, an ace and passed a 2.4 in serve receive. Combined she collected 30 kills, 26 digs, had a block, an ace and passed an average of 2.35 in serve receive.
Male Volleyball Athlete of the Week
Ryan Marcellus – VIU Mariners
The fifth year captain finished his regular season career in style against the Chargers of Camosun. He put together an excellent offensive game plan combining for 61 setter assists over the two matches. Rounding out his strong weekend stats, Marcellus finished with 31 digs, eight kills and three blocks. His leadership on and off the court has been a big factor in the Mariners’ success this season.
Female Basketball Athlete of the Week
Amber Beasley – Douglas College Royals
In addition to defending the oppositions’ top players, Beasley was a significant contributor on offence in both games this past weekend. In Friday’s hard fought loss she was the team’s second leading scorer with 15 points while securing five rebounds. Then in Saturday’s close game with Langara, she led her team with 18 points, including hitting two of three from three-point range and 10/13 from the free throw line. She also grabbed another five rebounds.
Male Basketball Athlete of the Week
Reese Morris – Douglas College Royals
On Friday night up in Squamish, Morris scored 24 points and had 11 rebounds in a win over Quest. Then on Saturday he followed it up with 29 points and 10 rebounds in an overtime win over nationally ranked Langara. Morris has been an instrumental addition in leading the Royals to six wins in their last seven games and an overall league record of 10-8.
