The versatile midfielder is being scouted by a host of European giants, but is it the right time for him to move?
Anderlecht’s youth academy has become famous in recent years as they’ve gifted to the football world the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Adnan Januzaj, Vincent Kompany and more recently Leander Dendonker, Denis Praet and Youri Tielemans.
We all saw what the latter is capable of in a video that went absolutely viral this week as Youri Tielemans scored two spectacular long – range goals, one with each leg to give his Anderlecht the lead and ultimately the victory against a stubborn Oostende side.
Understandably, a host of European clubs are following the teenager’s progress at the Belgium club and Atletico Madrid have espressed the most interest in signing the prodigy. If their appeal is accepted for the ongoing transfer ban by UEFA, the Champions League finalists may buy and sell players again in the summer and Tielemans tops their priority list.
The extremely talented playmaker is valued at €17M by Transfermarkt, but it will take a lot more than that to prize the player away from his parent club.
Tielemans is already the club’s vice-captain 19 years of age and his competitive spirit, technique, versatility and composure would add to Diego Simeone perhaps something they lack in this campaign as the Colchoneros are struggling to repeat the outstanding La Liga displays from previous years.
The player reportedly came close to joining Atletico in 2015, but the move failed to materialize.
