The Swift Current Broncos went against the Regina Pats for the fifth time this season and it was a night that needs to be erased from memory as the club was shutout by a score of 7-0 at the Brandt Centre.

The story of the first period was defence as both clubs played sound five-on-five defence and combined for only 12 shots on goal with the Pats recording nine. A breakaway from Sam Steel with six minutes to go was the lone golden scoring chance in the frame but his shot went wide and it was scoreless through 20 minutes.

Bad luck saw the Broncos’ Lane Pederson assessed with a questionable five minute major for charging 2:01 into the second period that also saw the 19-year-old forward receive a game misconduct.

Pats forward Sam Steel backhanded in the opening goal 38 seconds into the five minute major to place the Broncos down 1-0. Swift Current would kill of the rest of the major penalty but failed to stay out of the sin bin. Broncos defenceman blue liner Colby Sissons took a two minute cross-checking minor and the Pats made them pay with Steel netting his second of the night.

Dawson Leedahl completed a pass from behind the Broncos net to a streaking Steel, potting his third of the night for the natural hat trick and putting Swift Current in a 3-0 hole.

The Pats scored two goals 44 seconds apart early in the third period to make it 5-0 with the shots on goal being 37-11 in Regina’s favour. The Broncos pulled goaltender Jordan Papirny as backup netminder Taz Burman played the rest of the way.

The Broncos wrapped up a tough outing in Regina as they were held scoreless in a 7-0 loss.

Swift Current was outshot 51-15 in this one and were 0/2 on the power play while Regina finished 2/4.

The Broncos will need to quickly forget this one as the attention must turn to the Moose Jaw Warriors. The two East Division rivals meet at Mosaic Place on Saturday night. Puck drop is at 7:00pm CT.
