Team Craig Lepine and Team Lynne Noble will represent BC in the Canadian Senior Curling Championships in New Brunswick after they captured the BC titles over the weekend.
Team Lepine, hailing from Langley, Vancouver and Penticton curling clubs features skip Craig Lepine from Surrey, third Stan Walker from Vancouver, second Craig McLeod from Penticton and lead Mike Pelech from Surrey. The team, coached by 2015 Senior Canadian champion Karen Lepine, went undefeated through the tournament and defeated the defending champions from Kelowna and the Kootenays, Team Koffski, in the final.
Silver medals were awarded to Team Koffski, with the bronze going to Team Craig, from the Glen Harper Curling Centre in Duncan.
On the women’s side, the Vancouver Island team of Lynne Noble, representing Qualicum & District Curling Club, beat the home club favourites, Team Jenkins, in the final. Skip Noble was joined at third by Penny Shantz, from Parksville, second Colleen Robson from Courtenay, lead Kathy Branch from Comox and fifth Jackie Clement. Team Noble finished the round robin in third place, but defeated second-ranked Team Cowan in the semis and finished off with a 7-5 win over Team Jenkins in the final, who had been undefeated until then.
Team Jenkins were awarded the silver medals with the bronze going to Team Cowan.
Eight men’s teams and eight women’s teams from across the province took part in the competition.
The 2017 Everest Canadian Senior Curling Championships take place in Fredericton, New Brunswick, from March 18-25.
