Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals, with only three home games left in the regular season, will take on the Spokane Chiefs this Friday and Saturday. Victoria will look to secure their sixth consecutive trip to the playoffs, while Spokane chases a post-season spot. Puck drop for both contests is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

PLAYOFF POTENTIAL: The Royals (35-23-4-1), who currently occupy the first wild card spot in the Western Conference, have the opportunity to clinch a berth in the 2017 WHL Playoffs should they win both games this weekend. The Chiefs (25-27-6-3) currently trail Victoria by 16 points and sit nine points out of a playoff spot. Should the Royals win both contests they will finish the weekend with 79 points, and match the maximum possible points of Spokane for the remainder of the season while holding an advantage in the first head-to-head tiebreaker.

HEAD TO HEAD: This weekend’s games will mark the first time that the Spokane Chiefs have visited Victoria since Round 1 of the 2016 WHL playoffs. Victoria defeated Spokane in six games and clinched the series with a 6-2 win back on April 3, 2016. The Royals have earned a 2-0-0-0 record against Spokane so far this year, and have outscored them 10-6. Victoria has been led offensively by Matthew Phillips (2g-2a) and Dante Hannoun (1g-3a), each with four points in those two games.

The Royals’ third annual Women in Sport Night will celebrate the accomplishments of female athletics in our community.
