Prince Albert, SK – The Prince Albert Raiders (17-41-5-2) fell 5-2 to the Lethbridge Hurricanes (41-17-4-3) on Friday night at the Art Hauser Centre.
The Hurricanes jumped to out a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes on the strength of their power play. Matt Alfaro and Zak Zborosky both tallied goals with the man advantage four minute apart.
In the second, Simon Stransky got the Raiders back within one with his 18th goal of the season. Later in the frame, Egor Babenko finished off a pass from Alfaro to restore the Hurricanes’ two-goal lead. Just more than a minute later, Max Martin’s shot redirected off of a Hurricanes’ defender and past Ryan Gilchrist to make it a 3-2 game heading into the third.
Lethbridge pulled away in the final period. Tyler Wong scored his 48th goal of the year at the 7:30 mark moments after the Raiders couldn’t capitalize on the man advantage. Six minutes, Alfaro notched his second of the game to round out the scoring at 5-2.
Nicholas Sanders got the start in between the pipes for the Raiders, making 36 saves in the loss. Gilchrist stopped 38 shots in the Hurricanes’ win.
Up next on the Raiders’ home stand is a Saturday night tilt against the Kootenay ICE on Autism Awareness Night. The Raiders will be wearing special jersey for the evening, as well as raffling off a game-worn goalie mask.
