Cougars Get By Wolves To Move Onto The Second Round


COLWOOD, B.C. – The Victoria Cougars defeated the Westshore Wolves 5-2 in Game 6 to advance to the second round of the VIJHL Playoffs on Saturday.

Suneil Karod and his troops will now face the Kerry Park Islanders who advanced by eliminating the Saanich Braves in six games.

Victoria led 2-0 after one period and 3-1 after two.

Tyler Vanuden led the way with three goals and two assists.  Rounding out the offense were Grayden Hohl and Tyler Pang.

Getting the win in net was Anthony Ciurro who made 24 saves.

Tyler Carpendale and Keiran Cardinal replied the Wolves.

Rookie sensation Jordan Spandli stopped 36 shots in the loss.

The Cougars went 3-for-9 on the power play; meanwhile, the Westshore finished 1-for-5.

For Mitch Popp and Jake Watson, their junior careers have come to an end.

In Mill Bay, Rett Rook stopped all 36 shots as Kerry Park blanked Saanich 7-0 in front of 200 at the Kerry Park Recreation Centre.
