Prince Albert, SK – Everything went right for the Prince Albert Raiders (18-41-5-2) on Autism Awareness Night on Saturday.
Parker Kelly and Cavin Leth each had four points as the Raiders rolled to an 8-0 win over the Kootenay ICE (14-40-8-1) at the Art Hauser Centre.
Kolten Olynek opened the scoring midway through the first period. Right after a Raider penalty expired, Sean Montgomery, who was playing in his 200th career game, set up Olynek for his 13th Raider goal of the year. Six minutes later, Leth found space shorthanded and wired a shot over the shoulder of goaltender Payton Lee to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead
The Raiders added three more goals in the second period. First, Simon Stransky deked out Lee on a breakaway six minutes into the frame. Then, Vojtech Budik scored his first goal of the season to make it 4-0. With 2:14 remaining in the period, Brayden Pachal notched his third with the Raiders when he snapped his shot past Lee to put the Raiders up 5-0 after two.
Early in the third, Parker Kelly found pay dirt with his 15th of the season. Tim Vanstone scored the Raiders’ seventh goal with 9:40 mark, sending everyone home in attendance with a free round of golf from Candle Lake Golf Course. A minute later, Kelly tallied his second of the game on a penalty shot.
Ian Scott got the nod between the pipes for the Raiders, making 25 saves for his third career WHL shutout. Scott also stopped a penalty shot late in the third period. Payton Lee allowed all eight goals on 47 shots. Jakob Walter made seven saves in relief for the ICE.
The Raiders continue their home stand on Tuesday night when they tangle with the Swift Current Broncos for the last time this season.
