LANGLEY, British Columbia – After an impressive regular season, the two-time defending Canada West champion Trinity Western women’s volleyball team had an equally impressive showing in the all-star voting, as three players were named Canada West First Team All-Stars, including Sophie Carpentier (Ottawa), Nikki Cornwall (Coquitlam, B.C.) and Elly Wendel (Caronport, Sask.).

Carpentier, who is a four-time Canada West all-star capped her career with an extraordinary year in which she averaged 4.22 kills per set for a total of 350, which is the best single-season kill total in TWU history and seventh best in conference history. Carpentier also put up 422.5 points, which is the fifth best season in Canada West history and the most points ever put up by a Spartan in a single year. She set the TWU record for aces in a season, with 48, which was the second best serving performance in Canada West history. Carpentier was a First Team All-Star in 2013-14 before being a Second Team All-Star in each of the past two years.

Cornwall was named a Canada West First Team All-Star for the second year in a row after leading Canada West with 10.59 assists per set. Her average marked the seventh best season ever amongst conference setters. Cornwall also posted the fifth best assist total in Canada West history, at 879. She was also second on the Spartans in digs per set with 2.37.

Like Cornwall, Wendel has been a First Team All-Star in each of the past two years. This year, Wendel was once again a dominant force both at the serving line and at the net. She finished the year fourth in the conference with 4.6 points per game. The left-handed right side was seventh in Canada West in kills per set, with 3.70, and eighth in the conference in aces, with 0.48 per set.

The trio will lead TWU into the Canada West Final Four this weekend, which will see the Spartans play UBC in the semifinals Friday at 7 p.m. (PT). The top three teams at the Final Four will advance to the U SPORTS national championship at Ryerson University in Toronto March 17-19.

A total of nine all-stars and three all-rookies will take the floor this weekend at the Canada West Women’s Volleyball Final Four in Edmonton, as the Alberta Pandas welcome the Trinity Western Spartans, UBC Thunderbirds, and UBC Okanagan Heat to town.
