The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Vancouver Giants 8-1 on Friday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna.

The Rockets opened the scoring 9:55 into the first period as Carsen Twarynski ripped a slapshot from the point on the power play that beat Giants goaltender David Tendeck over the left shoulder for his 17th goal of the season. Then at 12:23 Dillon Dube finished off a tenacious shift by putting home his 16th of the campaign to pull the Rockets ahead 2-0. They took that lead into the second period.

Kelowna continued the offensive pressure as Dube scored his second of the night at 7:20 of the second period.

Then 35 seconds later James Hilsendager scored his fifth of the year from the point. The Rockets also got goals from Cal Foote (6) and Leif Mattson (8) as Kelowna led 6-0 heading into the final frame.

The Rockets collected third period goals from Reid Gardiner (15) and Devante Stephens (12). Vancouver got on the board on a 5-on-3 power play at 9:06 of the final stanza but that would spell the end of the scoring on the evening. Final score 8-1 Rockets.

Dillon Dube (2G, 1A), Calvin Thurkauf (3A), James Hilsendager (1G, 1A), Carsen Twarynski (1G, 1A), Cal Foote (1G, 1A), Nick Merkley (2A) and Erik Gardiner (2A) all had multi-point nights.

Brodan Salmond improves to 12-7-2-0 on the season.

The Rockets advance to 42-21-5-0 on the year.

Kelowna takes home ice again tomorrow night as they host the Victoria Royals for their final regular season meeting. Puck drop is at 7:05pm.

The Rockets are back in action following this weekend on Wednesday March 15th when they host the Everett Silvertips one last time.
