Tough Road Trip For Royals


Kamloops, BC- The Victoria Royals were taken down 6-2 by the Kamloops Blazers on Friday night at the Sandman Centre.


The Blazers’ Erik Miller recorded the game winner in the middle frame. Kamloops’ other goals were scored by Garrett Pilon, Nic Holowko, Rudolfs Balcers, Nick Chyzowski, and Quinn Benjafield.


Victoria received goals from Matthew Phillips and Blake Bargar. Phillips, who has scored 48 markers so far this year, is now three goals away from tying former Chilliwack Bruin Ryan Howse for the franchise record for most markers in a single season. Howse set the record when he scored 51 goals during the 2010-11 campaign.


Royals’ goaltender Griffen Outhouse made 32 saves on the 38 pucks directed his way before he was replaced by Dylan Myskiw who stopped both shots he faced. Blazers’ netminder Connor Ingram saved 29 of the 31 pucks he faced.


Victoria held a 1/6=16.7% mark on the powerplay, while Kamloops went 2/7=28.6% with the man-advantage.


The Royals will now travel to Kelowna to take on the Rockets tomorrow night with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The club will then wrap-up their BC Division road trip against the Vancouver Giants at the Langley Events Centre on Tuesday, March 14th with puck drop slated for 7:00 p.m.


Victoria will play its final home game of the season and celebrate Fan Appreciation Night on Friday, March 17th against the Everett Silvertips. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m.
