Moose Jaw, SK – Simon Stransky scored 1:29 into overtime to give the Prince Albert Raiders (20-43-7-2) a 3-2 victory Moose Jaw Warriors (41-19-8-1) at Mosaic Place on Tuesday night.
It was the Raiders’ first regular-season win in Moose Jaw since Oct. 31, 2014.
The Raiders struck first early in the first period. Max Martin was sprung on a partial breakaway and beat Zach Sawchenko with a low shot at the 4:13 mark. Cavin Leth had an opportunity to extend the Raiders’ lead with a penalty shot at the 8:08 mark, but he was denied by Sawchenko. Moose Jaw tied the game with 5:45 remaining. Dmitri Zaitsev’s power-play point shot got past a screened Nicholas Sanders to make it a 1-1 game.
Although there was no scoring in the second period, the Warriors came close on three occasions. The home side had two goals disallowed in the frame and Sanders stopped Jayden Halbgewachs on a penalty shot late in the period.
In the third, Parker Kelly continued his hot streak. He solved Sawchenko with a wrist shot at the 3:09 mark of the frame for his 20th goal of the year to put the Raiders up 2-1. The Raiders held onto the lead until there was 1:06 remaining. With the extra attacker, Noah Gregor finished off a passing play with Brett Howden and Brayden Burke on the short side to make it a 2-2 game after regulation.
Early in overtime, Sanders denied Gregor on a quality scoring chance. That set the stage for Stransky’s winner. Curtis Miske set up the Ostrava, Czech Republic product with a breakaway pass and Stransky made no mistake for his 20th of the season.
