Broncos Trampled in Regina

The Swift Current Broncos saw their season-high six-game road winning streak end to the team where they started this win streak back on Feb. 26th. The Pats had six different skaters find the back of the net in the Brandt Centre as the Broncos lost by a score of 6-2.

Pats captain Adam Brooks scored his 40th of the season less than a minute in as the Broncos were slow out of the gates, trailing 1-0 less than a minute into the game.

Dawson Leedahl put the Pats up 2-0 midway through the frame, one-timing in a low shot after receiving a pass from Sam Steel behind the net. Sergey Zborovskiy added another for Regina after making a move towards the Broncos goal and popping in his own rebound to make it 3-0 Regina.

Lane Pederson got Swift Current on the board five minutes into the second period as he tipped a Dom Schmiemann point shot to cut the deficit to 3-1.

The Broncos unfortunately got into penalty trouble later in the period and paid for it as Nick Henry and Connor Hobbs chipped in power play markers.

With the score 5-1 in the third period, Pats forward Filip Ahl netted Regina’s sixth goal of the night with a hard wrist shot that beat the blocker hand of goaltender Taz Burman.

Ryley Lindgren one-timed in a power play goal with a little minute left in regulation to get the Broncos their second goal of the night but it was too little too late as 6-2 was the final score.

Swift Current went 1/6 on the power play while Regina finished the evening 2/4. Shots on goal were 41-26 in favour of Regina.

The loss to Regina combined with the Moose Jaw Warriors losing 3-1 to the Brandon Wheat Kings on Wednesday has now solidified that the Broncos and Warriors will meet in Round One of the 2017 WHL Playoffs. Ironically, these two East Division rivals will close out the regular season with a home-and-home set on March 17th in Swift Current and March 18th in Moose Jaw. See a preview of this playoff matchup on Friday night as part of Fan Appreciation Night at the Credit Union i-Plex. Puck drop is at 7:00pm CT on Friday night.
