Broncos Defeat Warriors in Front of Full House

Aleksi Heponiemi scored the game winner to break a 1-1 tie and send 2,890 fans into an absolute frenzy as the Broncos hung on to edge the Moose Jaw Warriors 2-1 to close out their regular season home schedule on Fan Appreciation Night.

Matt Sozanski scored the opening goal for the Warriors 8:09 into the game with Noah Gregor collecting the lone assist.

Things got chippy late in the period as the Warriors Gregor and the Broncos Matthew Stanley received coincidental roughing minors while Josh Thrower and Arthur Miller each landed unsportsmanlike penalties at the end of the opening frame.

Broncos team captain and St. Louis Blues prospect Glenn Gawdin buried his 26th of the season as he crashed the net and snuck one by Zach Sawchenko to knot the game up at 1-1 five minutes into the second period.

With four-on-four play occurring in the final few minutes, the Broncos took advantage of a huge Moose Jaw mistake deep in their own end. Ryley Lindgren gathered a turnover for a 2-on-0 break with Aleksi Heponiemi and the two forwards completed a perfect cross ice pass with Lindgren sending it to Heponiemi who made no mistake to give the Broncos the go-ahead goal. For Heponiemi, the goal marked his 28th of the season and the Finnish Import remains first in the WHL rookie scoring race with 84 points.

Broncos goaltender Taz Burman was incredible, blocking 34 of 35 Warriors shots to earn his 18th victory of the year in front of a sold out crowd.

Shots on goal were 35-23 in favour of Moose Jaw. Both clubs rounded out the night 0/3 on the man advantage.

The Broncos close out the regular season at Mosaic Place against these very Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday, March 18th. Puck drop is set for 7:00pm CT.
