Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals were defeated 4-2 by the Everett Silvertips in front of a sold-out crowd on Fan Appreciation Night in the club’s final home game of the regular season.
Victoria Captain Ryan Gagnon set the franchise record for most career regular season games played with his 319th. The record was previously held by alumnus Brandon Magee who took part in 318 contests for Chilliwack (66) and Victoria (252).
The Royals’ Jack Walker tallied both markers for the homeside. The 20-year-old broke the 100-goal benchmark in his WHL career when he beat Everett netminder Carter Hart with a low point shot for his first of the night on the man-advantage. Walker’s second goal of the game came early in the middle frame.
The Silvertips’ Matt Fonteyne recorded two goals for the visitors. Everett’s other goal scorers were Kevin Davis and Eetu Tuulola.
Victoria netminder Griffen Outhouse made 23 saves on the 27 shots he faced. Silvertips’ goalie Hart turned aside 25 of the 27 pucks directed at him.
Both teams posted a mark of 1/3=33.3% on the powerplay.
The Royals will wrap-up their 2016-17 regular season tomorrow night at the XFINITY Center in Everett, with puck drop set for 7:05 p.m.
Victoria’s next home-ice action will come on Tuesday, March 28th and Wednesday, March 29th for Game’s 3 and 4 of Round 1 of the 2017 WHL Playoffs. The team’s opponent is yet to be determined.
